We Support Education.

Connecting our members with education is a high priority for our local builders and suppliers.  With a shortage of skilled tradespeople in the building industry, the HBA and its members are proud to support the National Association of Home Builders Home Builders Institute – a nationally recognized, credentialed training program to train our future workforce and potentially your future home builder. Locally, HBAGLBR supports community schools’ and building trades programs!

Michigan builders license

Michigan Builders License Information

If you’re planning to work as a general contractor in Michigan, you’ll need the right license when projects exceed $600. This means carrying either a Residential Builders License or a Maintenance and Alterations Contractor License. Both require a 60-hour pre-licensure course before applying to take the state licensing exam.

Getting your license is straightforward and can be done in three steps:

  1. Complete your required 60-hour pre-licensure education.

  2. Schedule and pass your exam through LARA.

  3. Apply for your Michigan Builders License.
